CHAPTER 1 - MAKING OUR OWN DRESS UPS!

As part of the children's interest in role play we decided to make, with the children, their own dress up costume which they will be able to take home! Firstly we wrote our names on our white singlet tops. Then we put rubber bands around parts of the singlet for when we tie dye them. Cookie came in to help us with that! Thank you Cookie! Have a look at the photos and keep an eye out for the next chapter!

MAKING ORANGE JUICE WITH SAIRA-JANE

With there being so much citrus fruit around at the moment Saira-Jane thought it would be good if the children could squeeze some oranges to make juice so they could see where orange juice comes from rather than having it cut up for morning tea!! They had great fun and enjoyed the end result! Even the camera got covered in orange pulp!! (photos attached)

SHARKY UPDATE!

Here is an update on one of our earlier stories 'Sam's Worm Farm' (3/07/09)
The worms have been very well fed and to our amazement and surprise 'Sharky' is about the size of an eel!!! We also have some slugs which have appeared in there.
They have been fed fruit and vegetable peelings. We enjoy keeping a look out for them to appear on the surface! (photos attached)

FINALLY FLYING OUR KITES!

After making our kites last week (see blog Making kites, 07/08) we finally had a bit of wind to fly them! We ran around the playground to see how they would go. They filled with wind and flew into the air with their tails streaming behind. We hoped they wouldn't take off with us holding on!! (photos attached)

Some grew more than others!! Some had a beautiful thick crop of hair and some had a few strands!! The children trimmed their 'Harrys' and decorated them with eyes, ears and noses! They have enjoyed caring and watching their 'Harrys' grow. Well done children. (photos attached)

OUR WEEK 3-7/08/09

When the Fire Truck came!

On Wednesday we had some very special visitors. The Firemen from Takapuna Fire Station came to visit us. We we all very excited! Tudor even woke up at 11pm the night before and wanted to come to Pupuke and see the Firemen then!!
We saw them coming and 3 of the firemen came inside to talk to us about fire safety and what to do in a fire. The driver had to stay with the truck listening for emergency callouts! They told us to crawl on the floor because there is more oxygen down low. We practiced this! (see the photo). Then they picked Dominic and he got to dress up in a mini version of their outfits!(see the photos) We then sang them our Fire song. We think they loved this!
Then it was outside to get up inside the truck. It was so high to get up there. The firemen then showed us all the equipment on the truck. There is so much of it.
They then recieved an emergency callout so we didn't get to see the hose being squirted but we didn't mind because we think the firemen do such a wonderful job!
They packed up and took off with their sirens going! We later heard that someone had burnt onions at Takapuna Grammar and set off the fire alarm so we were happy it was a false alarm!
A big, huge thank you to the firemen at Takapuna Fire Station. You are awesome!

Making kites

The letter of the week is K so we made some kites. We had plastic shopping bags and stuck feathers, paper, sequins and anything interesting we could find. We attached crepe paper streamers as tails but Emma said we shouldn't make them to long because when they fly them people will stand on them and they will break. We thought that was very sensible! Mel was hoping to fly them today but guess what! No wind!! Another day! (photos attached)
