Playball at Pupuke.

Dear Pupuke EEC Parents,

The end of the term is approaching, and therefore so is another term of Playball in Pupuke EEC. It has been a great success, with many of your children having a great time on the Playball programme.
Our numbers have been good during the term, we have now expanded our team of coaches for Pupuke EEC, and are happy to announce Playball is now accepting enrolments for Term Three 2010.

What is Playball?

Playball is a pre-sport programme for children aged 3-8.

Playball has been growing steadily in New Zealand for the past five years, having originally begun 27 years ago in South Africa, and has been gaining worldwide success since then.

Playball is a sport programme with a difference. As well as improving basic movement, gross and fine motor skills, and refining sport skills and technique, Playball programmes are age specific, with each of our programmes taking into account the difference in the cognitive, emotional and social development of the children in each age group.

Playball therefore, can be seen as a programme with a dual focus:
• On the one hand, our children gain a positive introduction to organised sport, being exposed to skills and concepts from a wide variety of team and individual sports that they will encounter in coming years.
• However, just as importantly, our Playballers learn to develop their “Playball Life Skills,” a wide set of values and principles that we believe develop children socially and emotionally, and are best fostered through participation in group sport and physical activity.

In a typical Playball session (of 45 mins), children will participate in 6-8 short, dynamic games, using Playball equipment tailored to their age and size. The programme is progressive, having been designed by a mixture of sports specialists and occupational therapists, and introduce our Playballers to the skills, concepts and joy of many different sports. Playball games are presented in a non-competitive, positive and encouraging environment, with a maximum child to coach ratio of 8:1, allowing for a more personal coaching style.
